Where is home? is a portrait of 19 year old Amenah Khalil Jaffar, who is born and raised in Denmark. She neither holds permanent residence permit, nor Danish citizenship.
Children and adolescents, who are born and raised in the country, are not granted Danish citizenship by default. When being born in Denmark, the only way to obtain citizenship, is if at least one parent already holds it. Some lenient requirements for 18 to 19 year olds, make it possible for those who meet them, to obtain permanent residence permit, eventually citizenship.
If you cannot meet these requirements, the only way being granted the citizenship is through the same ruleset as refugees and migrants, who enter Denmark by adulthood. Not holding a citizenship has both legislative and emotional consequences for adults and minors, such as it does in this case with Amenah.
