Nivetha Balasubramaniam is a Danish-Tamil director and recent MFA graduate from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. For her graduation, Kunsthal Charlottenborg is showing her latest film "Ethnic Pain".

The film explores a young girl’s experience navigating the Danish healthcare system alongside her mother, who has an Indian background. It highlights the challenges and prejudices that people with minority backgrounds can face when interacting with medical institutions. The title “Ethnic Pain” refers to the controversial term sometimes used in Danish healthcare to describe pain that doctors or nurses are unable to understand or explain, when examining patients with an ethnic minority background.
